Collect seed. Raise a campus nursery. Borrow the rest.

SMANR says plant Forest Department natives in the gaps. A campus nursery adds local genetics, student skill, and a living lab. Target 200–500 plants a year — not a factory.

A

Collect local seed

Take ripe fruit from healthy trees on or near campus. Label species, place, date, parent tree. Do not strip reserved forest without permission.

B

Raise in bags

Fenced corner, 50% shade net, local soil + sand + leaf compost. Water lightly. Harden in full sun 2–3 weeks before field planting.

C

Indent Forest stock

Write to the Range Officer for Neem, Pungai, Naval, Vengai, Iluppai. Tamil Nadu: nursery.greentnmission.com.

Simple seed notes

  • Neem — remove pulp, sow fresh or after short dry storage.
  • Pungai — soak 24 hours, sow in bags.
  • Naval — sow fresh; keep evenly moist.
  • Hard seed — nick or hot-water soak only after a 20-seed test.
Soggy bags kill more seedlings than a missed watering. Lift a bag: it should be damp, not heavy with water.
