Step 02 · சொந்த மண் மரங்கள்

Identify trees that belong on this land

SMANR gap-fill set first: Neem, Pungai, Naval, Vengai, Iluppai. Then add what the district already grows. Confirm with the Forest Range Officer before a large indent.

How to decide for your campus

  1. List trees already healthy within 2–5 km.
  2. Keep the five SMANR gap-fill species as the backbone.
  3. Add 3–5 extras that match soil and rainfall — not a catalogue.
  4. Ask the Forest Range nursery what they actually stock this season.

Do not use as the “forest”

Seemai Karuvelam, Eucalyptus blocks, Casuarina blocks, Gulmohar as main canopy, Rain tree avenues, *Polyalthia* Ashoka rows, most imported ornamentals. Miyawaki density only where irrigation is guaranteed.

Next: collect seed and raise a nursery →
