Remove Seemai Karuvelam with roots — cutting at ground level makes it denser. Stack wood as habitat piles. Do not burn the plot.
This is the field method from green-campus.in/smanr. Students do the work. Faculty keep the fence standing.

Fence. Stop grazing and fire. Mark every native seedling. Eco Club / NSS / NCC walk the plot weekly.
Weed around natives only. Mulch with dry leaves. Water only in peak summer, and only the weakest gap plants.
Where nothing regenerates, plant nursery / Forest Dept natives at wide spacing. Best window: early monsoon.
A little water multiplies birds, frogs and pollinators. Default combo: half-moon bunds + seasonal scrape + bird bath + log pile.
| Feature | Water | Safety | Use when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Half-moon bunds | None standing | High | Every patch. Student handwork above each cluster. |
| Percolation pit | None standing | High | Monsoon runoff, borewell recharge. |
| Seasonal pond | Rain only; dries in summer | High if shallow | Frogs and dragonflies. Mosquito cycle breaks when it dries. |
| Bird bath / drinking stone | Tiny, daily | High | Start this week while bunds mature. |
| Permanent mini pond | Needs summer water | Needs design | Only if staff and water are certain. 30–45 cm deep, sloped edges, visible from a building. |
| When | Work |
|---|---|
| Month 1 | Survey, permission, teams, four-corner photos. |
| Month 1–2 | Fence, start root-out of Prosopis, mark native seedlings. |
| Every week | Protect-and-weed round. Photo if something changed. |
| Seed season | Collect local seed. Fill nursery bags. |
| Early monsoon | Bunds. Plant only the empty ground. |
| Summer | Mulch. Minimal water. Watch fire and goats. |
| Each quarter | Recount marked seedlings + tagged trees on my-tree.in. |
